Portland, Oregon (October 19, 2022)– Oregon winery Grochau Cellars is commemorating twenty years with a brand-new tasting space in Portland and a brand-new name: GC Red wines. GC Red wines’ new tasting space lies in Canyons Alley at the corner of N. Williams Avenue and N.E. Ivy Street. The tasting room is GC Wines’ 2nd station; the winery’s initial tasting room is located in the Eola-Amity Hills near Amity, at 9360 SE Eola Hills Road.
The new GC Wines tasting room is an airy, bright area in the Canyons Street, an al fresco passage of stores located at The Canyons houses at 3450 N. Williams Ave. The area seats 17 visitors inside your home in addition to a standing bar and outdoor seating in the courtyard. The modern-day, open space is warmed by the handmade wooden bar and shelves and rich hanging plants.
The menu provides a flight of 4 GC Red wines for $20, with the flight choice changing monthly. For October, the flight features the 2021 Melon de Bourgogne, the 2021 Etheric White Wine Workshop Skin Contact Auxerrois, the 2019 Redford-Wetle Vineyard Gamay Noir, and the 2019 Upper 5 Vineyard Syrah. The wines on the flight are also readily available by the glass or by the bottle.
The menu also has an extra bottle list, to be enjoyed in the tasting room or taken home, in addition to a turning draft beer (Essence Pilsner for October), and a range of snacks are readily available. The treats consist of a Spanish nut mix, rice crackers with nori, and olives. Outside food is permitted and encouraged, so guests can bring in a takeout supper to enjoy with a flight or a glass of wine.
GC White wines was established by John Grochau as Grochau Cellars in 2002, and has evolved while also sticking to the principles he started with: red wine made with very little intervention from properly grown vineyards. Grochau thinks that all individuals involved in making the white wine are the partners who develop the end product. After assessing more than 20 years in the business, he shortened the name of his winery to GC Wines to reflect the brand’s evolution from one person’s dream to a dream recognized and a much bigger household.
GC Red wines is nationally known for their Commuter Cuvée, a friendly Pinot Noir blend. Their white wines also include the Convivial Pinot Noir and Gamay Noir mix, single vineyard Pinot Noir, and a number of varietal whites, ranging from the lemony Melon de Bourgogne to crisp Pinot Blanc.
