The 6th edition of the Mexico Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles was kept in Parras de la Fuente, Coahuila, Mexico on November 16 to 18, 2022. Twenty-eight international white wine judges from Mexico, the United States, France, Canada, Chile, Spain, and the United Kingdom tasted and rated a total of 737 white wines and spirits. All tasting was performed “blind” by the judges with no details regarding the variety, area, or native land.
Acknowledged globally for stability and professionalism, the Mexico Selection competitors is organized by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, which is based in Brussels, Belgium. The international panel of judges awarded an overall of 160 Silver, Gold and Grand Gold medals to wines and spirits from 17 producing states in Mexico and 2 producing states in the United States. The Mexican states amassing the most medals in the red wine category this year were Baja California, with 72 medals; Coahuila, with 30, and Querétaro and Guanajuato, with 16 each. The granted spirits come mainly from the states of Oaxaca and Jalisco.

This comes at a time when Mexican wine producers are making a push to enter the United States wine market with both exceptional quality and affordable costs. The Mexican Red wine Council has verified that the overall production of Mexican red wine production per year (as of November 2022) is valued at $2,174,014,500.00 USD with the U.S.A. as the primary export market. More than 44% of the overall 14,580 hectoliters of white wine are exported to the U.S.A. and 12% are exported to Japan. Carlos Borboa, Director of México Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles stated “There is no doubt, the wine sector in Mexico is booming and as anticipated by a few of the most experienced viewpoint leaders, it will continue to grow in the coming years.
