The winning white wines of a worldwide competitors were auctioned Sunday at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, and rapper 50 Cent was among the buyers.
The Grand Champion of this year’s Uncorked! International White wine Competitors cost a record $250,000, according to a press release from event organizers.
Andrea and Bruce Bryant, John Cotterell, Julie and Alan Kent, and Kristina Somerville bought the winner, J. Lohr Vineyards Cuvee PAU Red, Paso Robles, 2017.
The Reserve Grand Champ Finest of Show wine, Nice Winery Cabernet Franc, Paicines, 2018, was acquired by Amegy Bank of Texas, Lisa Blackwood, Fidelis New Energy, and Randa and Ray Gilliam, for $200,000, according to the release.
Rap icon Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and a business called Sire Spirits purchased the Top Texas White Wine, Hye Meadow Winery Boooom Red, Texas High Plains, 2017, for $125,000.
The red wine competitors, kept in honor of its founding member Charles M. “Bear” Dalton, consisted of more than 2,800 entries from 17 countries, consisting of France, Spain, Italy, Israel, Peru, Argentina and South Africa, and 480 from Texas wineries.
The 2022 Rodeos goes through March 20.
