Something to Wine About: White Wines to Pair with Thanksgiving Dinner – Long Island Press

November 5, 2022 by Wine

As Thanksgiving quickly approaches, numerous red wine columnists will write about what wine sets best with turkey. Many times, pinot noir will come up as the huge winner. But bear in mind these aspects: turkey is both white meat and dark meat, and it’s normally not the only dish served on Thanksgiving. And, lastly, there are gewurztraminer drinkers that choose to stick with whites regardless of the menu. Here are three crowd-pleasing gewurztraminers that complement turkey and all its repairings.

White Wines to Couple With Thanksgiving Supper

The very first red wine is the 2020 Unánime Chardonnay. This Argentinian white wine is a wonderful chardonnay. If you are accustomed to heavy, over-oaked, buttery chardonnays that are common in California, this white wine is an exceptionally enjoyable surprise. Notes on the nose and taste buds consist of spiced-apple, ripe-mango, banana, and nutmeg. It is medium-bodied with a beautiful, lavish mouth feel without being heavy. Not being heavy is important when the food is the star. It has wonderful, crisp level of acidity throughout. Surprisingly, 50% of this white wine is fermented in oak, and 50% is fermented in concrete eggs. Concrete eggs do not impart any flavors to the red wine as oak does, however they are slightly permeable letting in a very small amount of oxygen, and they soften the texture of the wine. This charming red wine retails for $24.99.

Next red wine isthe 2021 Bridge Lane Sauvignon Blanc. This is an extremely acceptable sauvignon blanc. It is citrusy and fruit forward without being aggressive and will complement, not compete, with your meal. It’s smooth, a characteristic frequently missing out on in numerous sauvignon blancs, and has low minerality, plus a really pleasing surface. This red wine retails for $15.99.

the 2020 Peconic Bay Vineyards Riesling. This is a higher end, off dry, and very balanced riesling. Many times when rieslings enter your mind individuals think of sweet, one note, starter wines that white wine drinkers might have started drinking, but grew far from as time went on. This enticing wine however may change that school of thought. Its flavors are fresh, and it is not cloying. The surface is crisp, tidy, and evocative of a lemon drop. This white wine retails for $30.
