Broadwayworld just recently had the enjoyment of attending “Spain’s Great Match 2022” at Mercado Little Spain by José Andrés at Hudson Yards in NYC. Spanish tastes took center stage at the event that is the largest, liveliest event of Spanish white wines, spirits, and Spain’s abundant gastronomic heritage in the U.S. The afternoon was committed to Spanish white wine and cooking workshops, regional spotlights, and food-and-wine pairing obstacles. Guests had the chance to taste from a choice of more than 300 brand-new vintages from much of the Spain’s leading wineries that included Bodegas Ego, Familia Martinez Zabala, Ferrer Family White Wines, and Bodegas Muriel.
Master Sommeliers and culinary professionals provided abundant, instructional seminars. We participated in “Red wines from the Heart of Mediterranean Spain.” The session was led by Carolina Martínez Origone, General Secretary, PDO Jumilla and Evan Goldstein, MS. It was a fascinating chance to learn more about Jumilla, the region situated in the southeast of the province of Albacete. The Jumilla Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) was formally developed in 1966. The locations climate is thought about semi-arid with hot summertimes and cold winter seasons that is perfect for organic farming. The soils are made up mainly of limestone and gravel with good soil depth for vine growing. Red grape ranges grown in the region consist of Monastrell, Tempranillo, Syrah and Garnacha. White grapes consist of Macabeo, Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Verdejo. The guided tasting of Jumilla red wines proved that the region is producing an excellent choice.
