PINETOPS– Kellie White wine is headed to college to play soccer.Wine, the 18-year-old daughter of Richard and Amy White wine and a senior at SouthWest Edgecombe High School, signed a National Letter of Intent recently to dip into Chowan University, a NCAA Division II school located in Murfreesboro.Wine, who plays center midfielder and is one of the Cougars’captains this year, had 4 assists, 7 takes and two goals last season as the Cougars went 8-3 overall and 6-2 in the Eastern Plains 2A Conference and reached the state 2A playoffs.She said she received letters from other colleges but selected
Chowan in part due to a previous colleague, Brianna Garbrandt– the child of SWE soccer coach Chad Garbrandt.”Among my old colleagues(Garbrandt) plays at Shaw, and we went to Chowan to enjoy her play(in the fall ), “Wine said.”I looked at the campus and liked it.” Red wine started soccer when she was just 3 years old by playing in a local Upward (church-related)program. She then progressed to intermediate school soccer(West Edgecombe)and then to SWE.” My seventh grade year was when I truly started to take it seriously,”she said. “When I got here, Coach Garbrandt really worked me up and built up my expectations my freshman year.”White wine takes pleasure in the center mid position.”I like it due to the fact that I like running and pursuing the ball and getting to shoot,”she stated. “I also like making
passes to other individuals so they can score.
“Wine has actually had several positive memories from her experiences at SouthWest.” This past season when I was a junior, it was my very first time going to a state playoff game and despite the fact that we didn’t win, it definitely was a positive memory,”she stated.
